EnerSea Completes CNG Vessel Design
Compressed natural gas developer EnerSea Transport has completed a pre-front-end engineering and design programme for a CNG ship for French major Total.
EnerSea said it has reviewed the new ship design, which would use the company’s Votrans system, with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries and Total during the pre-FEED to establish that it can be built cost-effectively.
This is the first time an energy major has been publicly linked to an ongoing CNG project. Houston-based EnerSea said it has also achieved approval in principle for the design from classification society DNV.
Managing director Paul Britton said: “We continue to overcome the challenges of deploying a new technology and are ready to move forward on the world’s first commercial large-scale marine CNG transport system.
“Markets are investigating all means of obtaining natural gas to replace fuel oil and diesel in their power plants.”
